Known primarily for its cultural and architectural beauty, Genoa is a seaside city with an ancient history. Overlooking the Ligurian Sea, the city offers numerous shorelines and cliffs that are easily accessible both for sunbathing and swimming in summer, but also for enjoying the sea breeze during all months of the year. The best beaches in Genoa


There are many beaches in Genoa and all are easily reached either by bus or train from Hotel Astoria.

The Genoese tend to divide the city into two three geographical areas: the center, the west and the east. Below is an overview of where to go to the beach in Genoa. Browse through our guide to Genoa for more information.


The eastern area stretches from the Foce district to Nervi, with a long coastline interspersed with impressive cliffs, pebble beaches, and scenic seaside promenades.

Starting from the center of Genoa, it is possible to find numerous bathing establishments on Corso Italia, full of services, bars, ice cream parlors and restaurants. While for the more romantic, you cannot miss a stop at the famous Boccadasse beach, set in the old fishing village made up of colorful little houses and trendy clubs.

Continuing on, you can find the beautiful beach of Vernazzola, away from traffic, within walking distance of the Sturla neighborhood. The Quarto and Quinto districts are both dotted with numerous beaches, both free and paid, as well as accessible reefs.

Finally, you cannot miss a visit to Capolungo beach, located at the end of the beautiful Anita Garibaldi promenade in the Genoa Nervi neighborhood.


Moving instead to the west, you can find numerous accessible lidos, both free and equipped, in the neighborhoods of Genoa Pegli and Genoa Vesima.


Beaches near Genoa


Should you have already visited the beaches of Genoa, you can find numerous traditional villages overlooking the sea, characterized by wonderful beaches, both sandy and pebbly.


Heading east, we recommend the beaches of Bogliasco, Sori, Camogli, and Santa Margherita Ligure. All these localities are framed by typical Ligurian architecture, made up of small colorful houses, and characterized by predominantly pebble shorelines, with stretches of free beach and equipped lidos.


To the west, without straying too far from Genoa, it is instead possible to find some sandy beaches. The main towns include Arenzano, Cogoleto, and Varazze.
