The traditional market of St. Nicholas: the oldest one

The St. Nicholas Market is undoubtedly one of the most famous and popular Christmas markets in Genoa, and is set up every year in Piccapietra Square. It is the oldest market in the city and is known for its displays of handicrafts. On sale are the works and products of artisans and associations, with the possibility of tasting excellent food and watching performances.

For reading lovers, not far away, in Galleria Mazzini, you can stroll among the stalls of the Book Fair.

How to get to Piccapietra Square: it is only a 10-15 minute walk via Via Serra, or Via XX Settembre.

Christmas stalls at Brignole Gardens

The Brignole Markets are back, set up this year in their original location inside the gardens overlooking the entrance to the train station. Here you can find many stalls dedicated to Christmas decorations, where you can buy cribs, trees and illuminations. There are of course no shortage of stands selling traditional pancakes, as well as sandwiches, clothing and accessories for all needs.

How to get to Brignole Gardens: they are just a 7-minute walk from the Hotel Astoria, opposite the Brignole train station.

The Christmas Market in Matteotti Square

The Christmas Market in Piazza Matteotti is set up in the characteristic little wooden houses and features many artisans, with a wide selection of costume jewelry, leather goods, clothing, gifts and typical Ligurian gastronomic products.

Also not to be missed, at the other entrance to Palazzo Ducale, are the stalls set up in Piazza de Ferrari.

How to get to Piazza Matteotti: the markets are only a 15-minute walk from Hotel Astoria, a stone's throw from the St. Nicholas Markets, right in front of Palazzo Ducale.

Cactus Market at Luzzati Gardens: crafts and environmental sustainability

An event not to be missed is the Cactus Market at Giardini Luzzati, in the heart of Genoa's historic center. A market set up under the banner of local crafts and environmental sustainability. Stalls and events are held on weekends only until Dec. 18.

How to get to Giardini Luzzati: Slightly farther away than the other markets, Giardini Luzzati can be reached in about 20 minutes starting from Hotel Astoria, reaching Piazza de Ferrari and then venturing inside the characteristic alleys of the historic center.
