Palazzo Rosso reopens to the public: discover the collections

Genoa’s Palazzo Rosso has finally reopened to the public. Now even more beautiful and with a revamped tour route.

A historic 17th-century residence of the Brignole-Sale family, Palazzo Rosso is part of the Strada Nuova Museums, along with Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Tursi. It is also on the list of the Palazzi dei Rolli, the historic Genoese aristocratic residences that once housed prominent figures.

Located a short distance from the Hotel Astoria, from which it can be reached either on foot through the center of Genoa or conveniently by public transportation, it houses one of the city's most important museum collections.

The renovations

Renovations to upgrade and secure Palazzo Rosso began in late 2019 and lasted about 3 years, ending with its reopening to the public on June 7, 2022. Works that were necessary to meet current quality and regulatory standards.

The interventions included the renovation of windows, doors and systems, the restoration of antique furnishings, the restoration of the facade, the Autumn Hall, and the Loggia of Ruins. It also included renovation works in the gardens.

The Grotto Room on the second mezzanine floor was also restored, allowing it to be opened to the public for the first time. Added to this is the major restoration of the vault of the Spring Room frescoed by Gregorio De Ferrari, a masterpiece of Genoese Baroque decoration.

The collections

Today it is possible to admire Palazzo Rosso in all its splendor, including the picture gallery, with paintings dating from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century and, on the upper floor, marble and furniture in typical Baroque style.

Inside are large masterpieces by Italian and international artists.
