Where to see foliage in and around Genoa

Foliage in the city: Corso Torino

Perhaps not one of the most picturesque places, but Corso Torino is undoubtedly a great option for savoring the colors of autumn without straying far from downtown Genoa. Located just a 10-minute walk from the Hotel Astoria, it is a long, straight, tree-lined avenue that leads all the way to the foce district, from where you can then stroll along the Corso Italia waterfront.

Villa Gambaro Park

Perhaps less well known than other city attractions, Villa Gambaro Park is located in the elegant Albaro neighborhood. It is easily reached from our hotel in about 30 minutes by bus. Along with a visit to Villa Gambaro, we also recommend combining a walk to Boccadasse, which is only 1.5 km away, to admire the autumn sea.

Acquasola Park

Acquasola Park, also called Spianata dell'Acquasola, is just a 10-minute walk from Hotel Astoria. It is an ideal place to photograph foliage and admire Genoa from above. It is a popular gathering place for the Genoese, who come to this garden to walk their dogs and let their children play.

Where to see foliage near Genoa: the Faiallo Pass

Leaving the municipality of Genoa and heading up into the mountains, it is possible to take wonderful hikes at high altitude, amid foliage and glimpses of the sea in the distance. Such is the case with the Faiallo Pass. Located in the municipality of Tiglieto, in the Beigua Regional Natural Park. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation to reach the mountain pass, which is about a 1-hour drive from Genoa. Recommended is the medium-difficulty hike that starts from La Nuvola sul Mare refuge and leads up to Rifugio Argentea, more than 1,000 meters above sea level.

Fall hiking: Lake Brugneto

Lake Brugneto, with its wonderful autumn colors, is located within the Antola Regional Natural Park and can also be reached in about 1 hour by car. It is definitely worth the trip to admire the foliage reflected in the lake's waters. It is possible to walk briefly along one side of the lake, or to make the loop trek all around the body of water: this is a rather long hike, 13.3 km for about 500 meters of elevation gain, which can be covered in approximately 5 hours.
