In the setting of the Old Port, a stone's throw from the famous Aquarium of Genoa, we find two structures with modern lines: the Biosphere and the Bigo. Very different in what they offer, they both contribute to the architectural style of the area.
The Bigo, with its 40-meter height, offers truly unique panoramic views of the city and the sea: a must-see attraction for those who love to take panoramic photos.
The Biosphere, on the other hand, in its distinctive glass bubble, allows you to delve inside the rainforest, discovering its features and admiring the flora and fauna up close.
What do they have in common? Both are perfect experiences for both adults and children!
The Bigo: admire the view of Genoa from above
The Bigo is a panoramic elevator with futuristic lines. It consists of 7 arms that fan out in the middle of Genoa's Old Port. It was designed in 1992 by the famous architect Renzo Piano, already the author of other major Genoese structures, taking inspiration from the cranes used in ports to load and unload goods from ships.
The elevator departs about every 15 minutes and leads to a height of 40 meters. The visit lasts 10 minutes and, as the structure rotates on itself, it allows you to admire the entire Old Port from above, as well as the sea, the rooftops of the historic center, and the characteristic defensive fortifications located on the hills behind the city.
The Biosphere: discovering the rainforest
The Biosphere, with its characteristic spherical shape, is located right next to the Aquarium and houses a reproduction of a rainforest. This is a unique structure and a first in Italy.
Inside, it is possible to admire more than 150 species of both animals and plants, which are perfectly integrated inside thanks also to the emulation of the typical tropical microclimate. Inside there are many species of plants and animals, including turtles, insects, fish and birds, a very nice parrot and the beautiful scarlet ibis.
